Figueira Da Foz
Figueira Da Foz, located on the Portuguese coast between Porto and Lisbon, has recently been hailed by the Guardian as the cheapest surf destination in Europe. This bustling industrial coastal town is ideal for surfers of all abilities with beautiful sandy beach breaks and knuckle biting reefs. It’s not a rip-off like famous neighbouring Peniche and it smells less fishy. Accommodation at the Paintshop hostel is friendly, relaxed and spotless. Guests tend to gather in the hostel bar or beer garden at night where drinks can be mindlessly stuck on a tab payable at the end of the holiday. On hot summer evenings the streets are packed with Portuguese punters rather than Brits abroad. The mountains surrounding the town are full of interesting little hamlets and quiet, unexpected beach breaks.
